CLIMATE CHANGE HITS KASESE DISTRICT: RESIDENTS CRY OUT FOR HELP
Kasese District, Uganda - Residents of Kasese District are struggling to cope with the impacts of climate change, from limited access to climate information to devastating disasters. In this rural community, women and youth are disproportionately affected by the lack of resources and support.
According to Ms. Jonelesi Biira, a resident of Mulehe village, "It is impossible for women to access immediate information from distances due to the limitation of available radio sets." This limitation has led to a lack of awareness about climate change, making it difficult for residents to prepare for and respond to disasters.
Meanwhile, residents like Mr. Kato Martin are appealing to the government to provide disaster mitigation training to secure their lives and livelihoods. "People, especially young children, are extremely affected by disasters, which impacts their academics," he emphasizes.

The community is calling on the government and other stakeholders to provide the necessary resources and support to address these challenges. This includes sensitizing men about gender equal opportunities, as emphasized by Pascal Mweruka, Farmer International Radio platform specialist.
The situation in Kasese District highlights the urgent need for collective action to support the most vulnerable populations, including women and youth, to thrive in the face of climate change. By working together, we can ensure a sustainable future for Kasese District.
