Empowering Women and Girls in Rwenzururu Kingdom : The Nyabaghole Foundation's Mission

The Nyabaghole Foundation a non-profit organization on 21st September 2024 joined civil society organizations organized by Reach Hand Uganda in intergenerational dialogue held at Rwenzori Square in Kasese Town

The foundation is dedicated to empowering women and girls in the Rwenzururu Kingdom in Uganda. The foundation's mission is to provide access to education, mentorship, and productive health services to the most vulnerable members of society, especially the girl child and adolescent mothers.

According to Her Majesty Queen Ithungu Agnes Nyabaghole, the Rwenzururu Kingdom Queen, the foundation's efforts are crucial in addressing the challenges faced by women and girls in the Kingdom. 'We believe that when girls are empowered with knowledge and resources, they become agents of change in their communities,' she says.

The foundation's programs are designed to promote gender equality, justice, and peace. They include providing access to education, mentorship, and productive health services, as well as promoting economic empowerment and leadership development.

One of the foundation's success stories is the Embali Ya Nyabaghole program, which provides mentorship and productive health services to adolescent mothers. The program has helped many young women in Kasese District to access education and economic opportunities, and to become leaders in their communities.

The Nyabaghole Foundation's work is a testament to the power of empowering women and girls. By providing access to education, mentorship, and productive health services, the foundation is helping to create a more just, equal, and peaceful society in Kasese District.

The foundation's efforts are also focused on addressing the challenges faced by adolescent mothers, who are often stigmatized and denied opportunities. By providing them with mentorship and productive health services, the foundation is helping them to overcome these challenges and to become positive role models in their communities.

In addition to its programs, the Nyabaghole Foundation is also working to address the root causes of gender inequality and injustice. This includes working with community leaders and stakeholders to promote gender equality and to challenge harmful gender stereotypes.

Florence Kabugho, the Women Member of Parliament for Kasese, has pledged to address the issues that affect the education of children. 'All stakeholders have to come on board to fight early marriages and teenager pregnancies. All sectors need to come together to implement the laws that are against the two vices,' she says.

Rev. Yongeza Baluku Mukonzo, Rwenzori Region Coordinator for Inter-Religious Council of Uganda, urges religious institutions to sensitize the public to desist from child marriage. 'It's a responsibility to everyone to have successful lives of children. All religious institutions are meant to ensure a peaceful and supportive environment to develop the well-being of children. Avoid situations that may lead them into temptation. Avoid being idle, do something that can bring some money to you,' he says.

The deceased is identified as Nabasire Sulaina Index Number U0436/200 has been studying at Bwera Secondary School.  She passed away suddenly last night.
