JOURNALISTS DEMAND CORRUPTION-FREE INVESTIGATION INTO KASESE DISTRICT SERVICE COMMISSION
A section of journalists in Kasese district have called on the newly instituted Kasese district probe committee to ensure a corruption-free investigation into alleged corruption tendencies at the district's service commission. The committee was instituted by the Kasese district council to investigate allegations of job selling within the service commission.
The journalists, who met with the probe committee shortly after an enclosed meeting, urged the committee to be fair and transparent in their investigation. "We want to ensure that the truth is revealed and justice is served," said Moses Muthabale, a journalist attached to Uganda Broadcasting Cooperation (UBC) television.
Fahadi Masereka, a journalist attached to NBS Television, expressed his concerns about the committee's ability to conduct a fair investigation. "We are worried that the committee might be bribed to kill evidence from victims," he said. "We urge them to be parallel and straight-forward in their investigation to save the people who have been robbed of their money in search of jobs."
The chairperson of the probe committee, Mr. Moris Kabutsugwire, has assured journalists of transparency during the investigation. "We will ensure that our investigation is fair and transparent," he said. "We urge locals to cooperate with us by providing clear evidence so that the accused are brought to book and punished."
The journalists' demands for a corruption-free investigation are a positive step towards ensuring accountability and transparency in government institutions. As Moses Muthabale said, "We want to ensure that the truth is revealed and justice is served." The probe committee's commitment to transparency is also a welcome move towards building trust with the public.
In a similar context, the 2023 Corruption Perceptions Index highlights the need for accountability and transparency in government institutions worldwide. The index ranks countries based on their perceived levels of public sector corruption, and it's clear that corruption remains a significant challenge globally.
However, with the journalists' demands for a corruption-free investigation and the probe committee's commitment to transparency, there is hope for a positive outcome in Kasese district. As Fahadi Masereka said, "We urge the committee to be parallel and straight-forward in their investigation to save the people who have been robbed of their money in search of jobs." With transparency and accountability, justice can be served, and the public can have trust in government institutions.
