Tour or Invest In Rwenzori

Tourism sector in Uganda Particularly Rwenzori is restoring slowly after being distracted by several challenges, including ADF attacks, distars and human activities like hunting and deforestation.

Conflicts in the region have affected the tourism industry in Rwenzori Region where On 16 June 2023 rebels of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), attacked Mpondwe Lhubiriha Secondary School  in Western Uganda's Kasese District on the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo where 42 people were killed, including 38 students; 8 were injured.

In October 2023, A couple on their honeymoon and their guide were killed in a cowardly terrorist attack at a Queen Elizabeth National, which left fear among international tourists.

However Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities and others Tourism Investors have not lost hope in restoring the activity in area.

For a long time government of Uganda has always ensued security and encouragement to outside tourists and investors to utilize the flora and fauna in Rwenzori Region 

Recently government, installed a Modernized Equator Monument at Kikorongo which has add value to Kasese Tourism Industry.

Mr. Pontius Ezuma Chief warden Queen Elizabeth National Park say that the new equator monument with not only promote tourism but also the businesses for both Leaders and Local business community in the district.

"The site, is known for its marked Equator Line that is now a favorite stop over for tourists traveling between Kasese and western region. Uganda and Kasese Kikorogo equator line will be handed over on world Tourism Day to have it fully functional."  Mr. Pontius

The innovation of Tusker Lite Rwenzori Marathon and Rwenzori Theluji Festival has highly geared and exposed opportunities in the region.

In the recent Tusker Lite Rwenzori Marathon, a number of runners turned up from 32 countries to participate the activity how they don't only come to run to also explore the beauty in Kasese 

"The vision is to make this marathon one of the world’s premier sporting events, attracting elite athletes and adventure seekers from across the globe. The long-term benefits for Kasese and Uganda as a whole are immense, from boosting tourism to driving economic growth,” said Amos Wekesa, Equator Hikes Director.

In the same manner, Kasese Tourism Investors Forum has engaged movement and other sponsors to boost tourism in Rwenzori Region 

Hon. Bahinduka Mugarra Martin the Minister of State for Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities used his X handle on 28th August 2024 to inform Ugandans and World about Tourism ongoing events in Kasese. 

"I am glad to note that activities leading to this year’s edition of the Rwenzori Theluji Festival 2024 are already underway in Kasese and we have patriotic, dedicated Ugandans to thank for the good job being done to clean, green and promote Rwenzori Region as a prime destination." Hon Magarra noted.

Kasese District Leaders and Tourism Investors on 5th September 2024 Launched their theluji 3rd Edition of Festival with tree planting as a way of conserving the environment and protecting the snows ( Theluji) 

Baritazare Kule Benson, the Chairperson, Board of Directors Kasese Tourism Investors Forum  expound that Theluji mainly aim to improve sustainable tourism within the Rwenzori Region. 

"As the Rwenzori Theluji Festival returns for its third edition, we are at a developmental moment of sustainable tourism within the Rwenzori Region. This festival is not just an event; it is a commitment, a celebration of our cultural heritage, our environment, and our shared diversity. It is our dedication to creating a sustainable tourism destination that benefits every Ugandan." Baritazare say.

Rwenzururu Kingdom and Kasese tourism investors’ forum on 22nd July 2024 signed a memorandum of understanding to promote tourism in Rwenzori region.

"The Kingdom will help to spread information tourism about turning it  into business and creating technology and innovations that may attract tourists in area." Rt Hon. Muranga say

Kiiza Alexander, Tour Guide and Investor in Kasese urge communities in Rwenzori Region to impress and love flora and fauna in by practicing community tourism.

Morish Bwambale a community member, show her appreciation to government and other tourism investors for enhancing the activity in Rwenzori Region.
