Bwera Secondary School Embraces Chinese Language, Calls for More Teachers
Mpondwe Lhubiriha Town Council, Kasese District - Bwera Secondary School is leading the way in promoting the learning of Chinese language in Ugandan schools. Despite the challenges, the school embraces Chinese as a valuable subject, recognizing its importance in today's globalized world.
"The Chinese language is a vital tool for our students to succeed in the increasingly competitive global market," says Mr. Wilson Kambasu, a dedicated Chinese teacher at Bwera Secondary School. "However, we urgently need more qualified teachers to teach the subject to meet the growing demand."
Students Anlloy Blessing and Asiimawe Anita share their enthusiasm for learning Chinese, expressing their desire to become Chinese translators. "We believe that learning Chinese will open up new opportunities for us, and we're eager to learn more," says Anlloy. "It's a challenging language, but we're determined to master it," adds Asiimawe.
Arnold Asimmwe, another student, mentions that sometimes they feel demoralized when other students laugh at them, and their teacher is busy attending to other subjects. "It can be tough, but we're motivated to continue learning Chinese because we know it will benefit us in the long run," he says.
The National Curriculum Development Center recognizes Chinese as a valuable subject, allowing it to be taught in Ugandan schools. Bwera Secondary School is at the forefront of this initiative, and with the government's support, they hope to secure more teachers to ensure the continued success of their Chinese language program.
By learning Chinese, Ugandan students can unlock new opportunities, foster cultural exchange, and enhance their career prospects in an increasingly interconnected world.
