CHAOS: KASESE MUNICIPAL COUNCILORS CLASH OVER FENCE CONSTRUCTION

A bitter dispute has erupted within the Kasese Municipal Council over the construction of a concrete fence around the council headquarters and the paving of part of the compound. The controversy has divided councilors into two camps, with some supporting the project and others vehemently opposing it.

Last week's council sitting ended in chaos, with disagreements spilling over into personal attacks. Mayor Chance Kahindo has now spoken out, accusing some council members of prioritizing personal interests over the welfare of the community.

"We are implementing a council resolution passed before we took office," Kahindo explained in an interview. "The construction of the fence and paving of the compound were part of the project, and we received 53 billion shillings from USMID for the purpose. We used 45.6 billion for the 4.5km road and 7.4 billion for the fence and paving."

However, Speaker Ukash Musenene Swaib has denied knowledge of the resolution, claiming that the project was not brought to the council for approval. "I want to know how much money was spent on this project to prevent the swindling of taxpayer's money," he said.

The dispute has left the council in limbo, with many important issues left undiscussed. As the next council sitting approaches, it remains to be seen whether the divisions can be bridged and the council can find common ground.

The controversy has also raised questions about transparency and accountability within the council. "We need to know who authorized the project and how the funds were used," said one councilor.

The matter is expected to come up for discussion at the next council sitting, and residents are eagerly awaiting a resolution to the dispute. "We want our councilors to work together for the benefit of our community," said one resident.

End.
