Experts Warn Against Food Loss and Waste in Kasese
Today 16 October is World Food Day. This year's commemoration centered on a theme titled "right to foods for a better life and a better future’.
Mr. Bernard Bwambale, National Program Coordinator for Consent in Uganda, is sounding the alarm on the dangers of food loss and waste in Kasese. Addressing district heads of departments at a training event in Virina Gardens, Mr. Bwambale emphasizes the need for food safety, nutrition, and critical awareness to promote good health conditions.
He also highlights the importance of regulating agrochemical applications, which can harm pollinators and lead to poor crop production. Moreover, Mr. Bwambale warns about the risks of highly hazardous pesticides, which can cause non-communicable diseases like cardiovascular disease, sleep apnea, and cancer.
Joining the call to action, Mr. Hashim Bwambale, Kasese District Nutritionist, stresses that everyone in the area should have access to adequate nutrition and affordable safe food. He urges heads of departments to sensitize communities about food safety.
Hon. Adam Bwambale, District Councilor representing Central Division, pledges to spread information to the public and calls for proper hygiene and sanitation to improve living standards. He also encourages the public to love one another and be security-conscious for a peaceful community.
The event emphasizes the need for collective action to address food insecurity and promote good health in Kasese."
