Meet the Inspiring 50-Year-Old Father of Six and 28-Year-Old S.4 Candidates in Kasese
As the Uganda Certificate of Education exams commence, two remarkable individuals, Mr. Charles Gumisiriza, a 50-year-old father of six, and Mr. Leo Nuwagaba, 28, are making headlines by sitting for the transitional curriculum exams at King Jesus College Mubuku Secondary School in Kasese district.
"I'm doing this for my children," Mr. Gumisiriza said, "I want to show them that education is the key to success." He shared his incredible journey with our reporter, "After dropping out in senior three in 1998 due to personal issues, I pursued technical courses in building and construction. Now, I'm determined to pass the exams, having attended lessons for two years." He's excited to be sitting alongside his firstborn child, a candidate at Kyamakanda SS, "It's a dream come true! I'm confident of passing the exams because I have been attending lessons for the past two years."
Mr. Nuwagaba, 28, has a similar story of perseverance, "I didn't want to regret not completing my education." He shared, "After reaching senior four at Rwangombwa SS in Ibanda district, I dropped out and pursued driving and mechanics. Now, I'm aiming to become a qualified teacher or professional automotive mechanic." He added, "I want to become a role model for my community and show them that it's never too late to pursue education."
Herbert Muhindo, the head teacher of King Jesus College Mubuku SS, is confident in his candidates' abilities, "We've prepared them well, and I'm sure they'll do their best." With 72 students sitting for exams, including the two pioneers, the school is buzzing with excitement.
"We strongly warn against involvement in any forms of examination malpractice or even facilitating it in any way. Anyone found culpable will be dealt with in accordance with the UNEB Act 2021," he emphasized.
Meanwhile Kabbyanga Godfrey Baluku the State Minister of ICT and National Guidance has wishes success to all senior Four Candidates in the country.
