UGANDA WELCOMES NEW ERA OF TOURISM WITH COMMISSIONING OF KIKORONGO EQUATOR MONUMENT

The Kikorongo Equator Monument was officially commissioned, marking a significant milestone in Uganda's tourism industry. The event was graced by the Presidency Advisor for Rwenzori Region, Christine Muhindo, who expressed her delight at the development.

"I have never seen such excitement in Rwenzori! This monument is a game-changer for Kasese, and I commend the government for its foresight in promoting tourism in our region," Muhindo said.

The Chairman of Kasese, Muhindi Aliphaz, welcomed the initiative, urging the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) to allow the community to conduct business along the equator. "We are grateful for this opportunity and commit to working with UWA to promote the tourism sector," Aliphaz said.

UWA's Executive Director, Kalema Jemus, emphasized the importance of community engagement and revealed that entry fees to UWA would be 20,000 shillings for Africans, while access to the monument would be free. "We want to encourage tourism while ensuring local benefits," Jemus explained.

Retired Col. Butima Tom, congratulated the government on its support for tourism and peace in Uganda, predicting that Kasese would become a city if peace prevails. "If we maintain peace, Kasese will become a city, and this monument will be a symbol of our prosperity," Tom said.

The commissioning of the Kikorongo Equator Monument is expected to boost tourism in Kasese, creating opportunities for local businesses and communities to benefit from the influx of visitors. With its rich cultural heritage and natural beauty, Uganda is poised to become a leading tourist destination in Africa.
