Rwenzori East Region Experiences Surge in Accidents Ahead of Christmas Season
According to SP Nelson Tumushime, the Rwenzori East Police Spokesperson, the region has witnessed a significant increase in accidents since Monday, with four serious crashes and one minor incident reported.
On Thursday, a pedestrian was involved in a serious accident with a Toyota Land Cruiser (registration number UBF743-L) on the Fort Portal road in Kasese. The vehicle was traveling from Hoima to Bwera in Kasese District.
Another serious crush occurred in Nyakasanga, Kasese Municipality, involving a motor vehicle (registration number UBJ100-Y) and a motorcycle (registration number UFB160-J).
On November 11, a pedestrian was involved in a serious accident with a motor vehicle (registration number UFB229-S) near the URA offices in Kasese.
A fatal accident occurred in Nyakasanga, involving a motorcycle (registration number UFP279-H) and a vehicle (registration number UFQ356-T). The rider was admitted to Mount St. Mary's Hospital in Kasese, and the passenger was referred to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital due to deteriorating condition.
A minor accident occurred when a Poko Poko Bus Company bus (registration number UBE807-T) overturned in Katojo, Rusese, resulting in five passengers sustaining minor injuries.
SP Nelson Tumushime cautioned the public to exercise extra caution while using the highways during the festive season and to observe maximum traffic rules and regulations. He also stated that traffic operations will continue to punish errant drivers and motorists who contravene traffic rules and regulations.
