CHILDREN IN DANGER: EXPERTS SOUND ALARM AS HOLIDAY SEASON APPROACHES : - KASESE
As the holiday season beckons, a sense of unease settles over the Rwenzori Region. Police are warning parents to be on high alert, as child trafficking cases and road accidents threaten the safety of their children.
"Security is calm in the region, but we still need to be vigilant," says SP Mbusa Luke, Rwenzori East Police Community Liaisons Officer. "We request parents to be aware of child trafficking and report any cases to the police."
But that's not all. The roads are also becoming a danger zone, with overloading and reckless driving putting lives at risk. "We have seen a number of road abuses by drivers, motorcyclists, and pedestrians leading to loss of lives," warns Acting OC Traffic Kasese, Norbert CPL Barugahare.
And if that's not enough, health experts are urging parents to prioritize quality time with their children, as the holiday season can be a breeding ground for bad cultural practices that promote child marriages and violence. "Parents should give time to their children and interact with them," advises health expert Mr. Kabagambe Kenneth.
But there is hope. Hon. Best Juliet Bakoko, Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu Minister of Gender, Rehabilitation and Disability Affairs, is fighting back against these dangers. "We condemn bad cultural practices that promote child marriages and violence," she says. "And we're producing a book on good cultural practices, soon to be published." Hon Godfery Baluku Kabyanga, Minister of State for ICT and National Guidance. "I urge you all to embrace a saving and business culture to enhance your home income and impress education of your children."
To ensure their children's safety and well-being, parents must be aware of these dangers and take necessary precautions. By being vigilant and proactive, parents can help protect their children from harm and create a secure and nurturing environment for them to thrive.
