Kasese Runners Invited To Participate in the Gulu Marathon.

"The organizers of the Gulu Marathon, led by Mr. Amos Wekesa, have invited the Kasese Municipality runners to join the event on December 7th, 2024," said Sunday Bakwe, the caretaker of the Kasese Municipality runners. "We are thrilled to participate in this event and showcase our talent."

The 2024 theme is “Running for Culture and Heritage.” "This theme resonates with us, as we believe that running is a way to celebrate our culture and heritage," added Bakwe.

Event: 1st Gulu City Marathon

Date: Saturday, 7th December 2024

Distances: 5KM, 10KM, 21KM, 42KM

Start & Finish: Kaunda grounds, Gulu city

Entry Fee: Ug.Shs 60,000 per person

Theme: Running for Culture & Heritage

"We have decided to create a new association called Rwenzori Region Athletes," said Bakwe. "This association will help in mobilizing and identifying talents in the Rwenzori region."

Eve Masika -Kasese Runner 

Five participants will represent Kasese Municipality in the Gulu Marathon, setting off on December 4th, 2024. The team will be led by Arinitwe Brain, who will participate in the 10km race, along with Otule Moses and Eve Masika in the 42km race, and Bwambale Xzeli and Mumbere Divid in the 21km race.

"I am so proud of these runners," said Mr. Francis Mugisha Kithulha, the Executive Director of Kithulha Care Initiative. "They have worked so hard to get to this point, and I have no doubt that they will make us proud in Gulu."

The marathon will start and finish at Kaunda Grounds, with participants running through key landmarks in Gulu City, including the Gulu War Memorial and the Gulu City Main Market. "This is a great opportunity for us to showcase our city and promote tourism," said Mr. Wekesa.

The marathon aims to raise funds for educational initiatives and create awareness about the importance of education in empowering the youth of Gulu City. "Education is the key to unlocking the potential of our youth," said Mr. Kithulha. "We are committed to supporting initiatives that promote education and empower our young people."
