RWENZURURU KINGDOM URGES PRESIDENT MUSEVENI TO FULFILL PLEDGES
Kasese, Uganda - The Rwenzururu Kingdom has called on President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to fulfill the pledges he made to the kingdom during their historic meeting in December last year at State House.
"We appreciate the President's support for the kingdom, particularly in fostering unity and development," said Gen. Wilson Mbadi, the Minister of State for trade, industry and cooperatives conveyed a message of appreciation from His Majesty Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere Iremangoma, the King of the Rwenzururu Kingdom.
The Omusinga specifically requested the President to consider settling and rehabilitating the former Rwenzururu Royals Guards. "We are grateful for the President's support, and we hope that he will fulfill his pledges to us," said Gen. Mbadi.
The request comes after the state dropped treason, terrorism, and murder charges against Omusinga Charles Wesley and 217 of his royal guards in June last year. Omusinga was arrested together with his royal guards in November 2016 when the police and the army raided his Buhikira palace in Kasese.
During the OBR 58 Coronation Anniversary, Vice President Jessica Alupo reaffirmed the government's commitment to improving the livelihoods of Ugandans, particularly in the Rwenzori region.
"We are committed to supporting the kingdom and the people of Rwenzori in their efforts to develop their region," said Vice President Alupo. "We urge you to prioritize agriculture as a means to fight poverty and promote sustainable development."
The Rwenzururu Kingdom has historically had a strong relationship with the Ugandan government, and the King's message of appreciation reflects the kingdom's gratitude for the President's support.
