Waterlogging Threatens to Drown the Dreams of Kasese's Youth, But a Beacon of Hope Emerges
From the lush grounds of Kasese SDA playground, where young footballers are chasing their dreams, comes a story of hope and empowerment. Despite the current waterlogging issues, the playground remains a hub of activity, hosting three local clubs: KBLC Soccer Club, Soweto Kobs SC, and Kamaiba Soccer Academy.
Mukwano Titus, Programs Director of New Life Foundation Community Rural Development, is one such individual. "We believe that engaging children in sports can help them develop important life skills, such as teamwork, discipline, and responsibility," Titus explains. The organization aims to create a community where children are engaged in sports, particularly football, to foster social responsibility.
"Our goal is not only to develop sports skills, but also to teach children to love their country and support their communities through positivity," Titus adds. At least eight clubs have confirmed participation in the forthcoming tournament a testament to the growing enthusiasm for sports development in the region.
However, the waterlogging issues at Kasese SDA playground require immediate attention. NeFCORD is actively removing water to ensure a safe and successful tournament. Titus calls on well-wishers to support improvements, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in empowering youth through sports.
Medress Mbambu, coach of Kamaiba Soccer Academy, is a shining example of this empowerment. "Engaging children in sports improves behavior and social respect," Mbambu says. A talented mom and coach, Mbambu encourages fellow women to support their children's talents, crucial for future success.
Mbambu highlights that the positive impact of football is shielding children from bad peer groups and harmful behaviors. Bruno Bwambale, a talented player, emphasizes that football is a powerful tool for personal growth and financial opportunities. Bwambale urges parents not to discourage their children from pursuing their football dreams.
In addition to football, children are also acquiring valuable vocational skills, which can help them earn a steady income. This holistic approach to youth development is a hallmark of NeFCORD's initiative.
As the playground prepares to host the upcoming tournament, the sense of excitement and anticipation is palpable. Despite the challenges, the community remains committed to empowering their youth through sports.
