YOUNG FOOTBALL STARS SHINE BRIGHT IN KASESE - NeFCoRD FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT
Kasese, Uganda - The future of Ugandan football is looking brighter than ever! The New Life Foundation for Community Rural Development with support from Agence Francaise De Development ( AFD) and La Guilde Action today (19th December 2024) ended a four days thrilling youth football tournament, showcasing the talents of young footballers from five local clubs.
"We're committed to providing opportunities for these young footballers to grow and develop their skills," said Mukwano Titus, Programs Coordinator for New Life Foundation. "Football has the power to unite communities and empower Uganda's future stars."
The tournament featured categories for Under 8, 10, 13, 15, and 17-year-olds, with Kasese Junior Soccer Academy and Kitswamba Lions Sports Academy emerging as top performers. Other participating clubs included Kamaiba Soccer Academy, Railway Soccer Academy, and Kasese Airfield Soccer Academy.
Biira Mariat, Captain of Kamaiba Soccer Academy Girls, urged parents to support their children's talents. "I ask parents to foster their children's talents, as it can lead to a brighter future," she said.
Baluku Syrus, a player at Kitswamba Soccer Academy, encouraged team managers to scout for talented players in villages and avoid discrimination. "I implore team managers to reach out to villages and identify talented players, without any bias or discrimination," he said.
Moses Asiku, Chairperson of the Kasese District Football Association (KDFA), called for cooperation among club managers to promote local talent. "I ask club managers to cooperate with us to promote talents in Kasese. We've seen an improvement in the number of academy clubs, and we want to keep nurturing that growth," he said.
Kaputu Mosese, President of Kamaiba Soccer Academy, advised players to focus on sports for positive change. "I warn you against engaging in bad acts and focus on sports for a positive change. The football you're playing benefits an individual first," he said.

The tournament demonstrated the potential for football to bring communities together and promote youth development. As the young players took to the field, their passion, skill, and teamwork inspired spectators and highlighted the importance of investing in Uganda's future sports stars.
