A joint operation by Bwera Police and other security agencies, codenamed "Gaza Phase II" and "B13", has resulted in the arrest and remand of 49 suspects in the Mpondwe Border Area.
"We are committed to ensuring the safety and security of Ugandans," said Nelson Tumushime, Public Relations Officer for Kasese. "The arrest of these suspects is a significant step towards restoring order in the region."
The operation, which aimed to clean up the border area, resulted in the arrest of 34 criminals who were terrorizing locals. A subsequent intelligence operation on Friday, January 17, 2025, led to the arrest and remand of 15 additional suspects by the Mag Court of Bwera.
Following the arrest and remand of the 34 suspects, another intelligence operation was conducted, resulting in the arrest of 15 more suspects, bringing the total number of suspects arrested in Bwera Division to 49.
"We appeal to residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing information to help us achieve our goal of socio-economic transformation in the country," Tumushime added.
The Mpondwe Border Area is a significant location, being a major market center along the Uganda-Democratic Republic of Congo border. Efforts to maintain security in this region are crucial for promoting economic development and social stability.
