Coffee Worth Thousands Reduced to Ashes: Kasese Agricultural Extension Worker Cracks Down on Unripe Coffee.
In a dramatic move, Kasese Agricultural Extension Worker, Mr. Asanaire Bukanywa, has ordered the burning of unripe coffee worth thousands, found in Kiddo Cell, Kasese Municipality. The coffee, belonging to Godwin Masereka, a resident of Kidodo Cell, was reduced to ashes in a bid to enforce quality control measures.
The incident occurred today after the surveillance team notified Mr. Bukanywa of unripe coffee being sold in the area. Upon arrival, he found the coffee and warned that he would work with the police to apprehend anyone found selling unripe coffee, citing the Coffee Act.
Mr. Bukanywa also announced plans to convene a meeting with local council authorities and coffee buyers to sensitize them on the importance of purchasing high-quality coffee.
The defense secretary for Kidodo Cell, Mr. Baker Enyakeya Masereka, urged residents and buyers to learn from the incident and adhere to quality standards.
In a subsequent interview, Godwin Masereka acknowledged ownership of the burnt coffee and expressed willingness to apologize if summoned. He claimed to purchase coffee from various locations, including Bugoye and Katoke.
