Government Urges Uganda Development Bank to Support Tourism Sector in Kasese
Kasese, Uganda - The State Minister for ICT and National Guidance, Hon. Godfrey Baluku Kabyanga, has called upon the Uganda Development Bank (UDB) to invest in the tourism sector in Kasese District.
"We have a lot of tourism potential in Kasese, with attractions like Queen Elizabeth National Park, Mount Rwenzelori, and several lakes. I urge UDB to support investors who want to develop tourism projects in the area," said Hon. Kabyanga during a press conference at Bwera School of Nursing and Midiology in Kasese District.
The Minister emphasized the importance of tourism in boosting the local economy and creating jobs. "Tourism is a key sector that can help us improve our economy. I encourage UDB to provide financing to investors who want to develop tourism projects in Kasese."
In response, Allan Joshua Mwesigwa, Director of Strategy and Corporate Affairs at UDB, assured the Minister that the bank is committed to supporting the tourism sector.
"We are already supporting the tourism sector, and we will continue to do so. We also support other sectors like agriculture, industrialization, and services, with the aim of achieving national sustainable development goals," said Mwesigwa.
He added that UDB provides financing to companies that focus on environmental conservation. "We are committed to supporting projects that promote environmental sustainability. We believe that this is crucial for the long-term development of our country."
The call to support the tourism sector in Kasese comes at a time when the district is experiencing an increase in tourist arrivals. The district hosted the Tusker Lite Rwenzori Marathon and the Rwenzori Theluji Festival, which attracted a large number of tourists.
