MUSEVENI REGIME SHUTS DOWN PEARL FM DURING RAMADAN
In a shocking move, Gen. Museveni's regime has used the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) to block Pearl FM, a popular radio station, during the Holy Month of Ramadan. This drastic action has sparked widespread outrage among Ugandans, who rely on the station for Islamic teachings, prayers, and local news.
According to Robert Kyangulanyi Sentamu aka Bobi Wine, leader of national unity platform, Pearl FM was taken off air for allegedly discussing election rigging in Kawempe North. Wine strongly condemns the attack on the media and demands the immediate reopening of Pearl FM.
The closure of Pearl FM is part of a broader attack on the media, with journalists being physically assaulted and their equipment destroyed.
Journalists are calling for an end to censorship and the restoration of press freedom. In a related development, an electoral and criminal investigation has begun in the Kawempe North by-election. Allegations include:
- Ballot papers stuffing: reports of ballot papers being stuffed to influence the outcome of the election.
- Altering results: allegations of election results being altered to favor certain candidates.
- Destroying ballot boxes: ballot boxes were destroyed in areas like Kazo-Angola and Mbogo Mosque zone.
- Campaigning at polling stations: some individuals were campaigning at polling stations, which is against electoral laws.
- Intimidation and violence: reports of intimidation and violence against voters and opposition supporters.
