LIGHT FM FM LAUNCHES MARATHON TO SUPPORT MPONDWE LHUBIRIHA SECONDARY SCHOOL ADF ATTACK VICTIMS
AWR 102.9 Light FM FM has launched a marathon to support families affected by the 2023 ADF attack at Mpondwe Lhubiriha Secondary School, marking its 10-year anniversary.
The event, featuring 5km and 10km runs, will take place on May 11, 2025, at KBLC. The marathon aims to support families affected by the Nyabugando ADF attack.
On June 16, 2023, the ADF rebels attacked Mpondwe Lhubiriha Secondary School, resulting in 42 deaths, including 38 students, and leaving eight people severely injured. The rebels also abducted several students and set fire to the boys' dormitory and a school vehicle.
"We are excited to launch this marathon as part of our 10-year anniversary celebrations," said Pastor Paul Birenge , the communications director at Rwenzori Field SDA Church. "It's a great opportunity for us to give back to the community and support those affected by the ADF attack."
"We believe this event will not only bring people together but also provide support to those affected by the ADF attack," said Geoffrey Kanyonyi, the Manager of Light FM FM. "We are grateful for the support of our partners and the public in making this event a success."
Security for the event has been assured by SP Nelson Tumushime, the Rwenzori East Police Spokesperson, who has urged the public to maintain law and order.
"We will ensure that the event is safe and secure for all participants," said SP Nelson Tumushime. "We urge the public to cooperate with our security personnel to make this event a success."
The station is also offering advertising opportunities for partners to reach a wider audience during its 10-year anniversary celebration. SDA Rwenzori Field workers are joining the celebration, showcasing their support and partnership with the radio station.
"We are proud to partner with Light FM FM in celebrating their 10-year milestone," said Pastor Paul Mumbere, the SDA Rwenzori Field President. "We urge the public to support this event and join us in giving back to the community."
