Opening Opportunities for Children : 21 Primary Schools Participate in Central Division in Kasese Town Primary School Sports Games
A total of 21 primary schools in Kasese Municipality participated in the Primary School Football and Netball competitions held at Kilembe Quarters Playground.
According to Mr. Masereka Benon, Chairperson of Sports for Primary Schools in Central Division, Kasese Municipality, the event saw a notable increase in participation from private schools compared to previous years.
The Ministry of Education and Sports has been instrumental in promoting sports in schools, recognizing its importance in promoting physical fitness among learners. However, private schools face significant challenges in financing sports activities, which limits their participation.
"We urge community members and relevant offices to support sports activities in schools," said Bayita Ricky, sports teacher at Bride for Peace International School, and Kambere Benon, games master at Infant Preparatory School. "Sports play a significant role in empowering school-going children physically, mentally, and socially."
Pupil Sebowa Alex from Railway Primary School emphasized the importance of sports in exposing players to greater opportunities, such as scholarships, and urged parents to support players by providing necessary equipment.
In a thrilling match, Masereka Elisha, a P4 Pupil and talented soccer player at Kamaiba Soccer Academy and Kasese SDA Primary School, scored a goal in the semi-finals against Kirembe Primary School. With dreams of becoming a pilot, Masereka's skills on the field are undeniable.
Kasese SDA Primary School, mentored by Kamaiba Soccer Academy, will proceed to the semifinals scheduled for next week.
The event highlights the growing importance of sports in primary schools and the need for continued support from stakeholders.
