Isaya Mukirania Kibanzanga I (1924–September 2, 1966) was a Ugandan teacher and political activist who led the Rwenzururu movement, a rebellion against the Tooro Kingdom and the central government of Uganda.
He is revered as the founder of the Kingdom of Rwenzururu and its first self-proclaimed Omusinga (King), reigning from the Rwenzori Mountains from 1962 until his death on September 2, 1966.
In a speech read by Nzaghali Muhindo Noah, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu, the reigning Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere noted that Isaya Mukirania played a significant role in the revolution of the Rwenzururu Kingdom, alongside others who supported the kingdom’s establishment.
Omusinga Charles urged all kingdom subjects to remain united in upholding Mukirania’s vision.
Hon. Agatia Katya, the Minister of Culture for OBR, tasked subjects with preparing for upcoming kingdom events. He announced plans to establish a radio station, which will be funded through contributions from subjects, including through the Omusinga Birthday Run, one of the kingdom’s fundraising events.
