Hon Sarah Ithungu the Kasese Woman MP Donates Seed Capital to Nyamambuka Groups, Supports Mothers with Mama Kits

The Woman Member of Parliament for Kasese District, Hon. Sarah Ithungu Baleke, has donated UGX 1 million to 10 community groups in Nyamambuka I Cell, Mpondwe-Lhubiriha Town Council Kasese District, to support their income-generating activities.

Each group received UGX 100,00 during her community engagement in the area, where she also mobilized residents to support National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidates in the upcoming Local Council I elections.

Hon. Ithungu said the support is aimed at empowering communities and improving the livelihoods of residents. She encouraged local leaders to create a database of educated but unemployed youth to help connect them to available job opportunities.

She also pledged support to elderly women involved in charcoal selling, saying there is a need to help them find better sources of income. The legislator further promised to lobby for the construction of culverts to replace temporary bridges affecting residents.

«“The community needs to identify educated young people who are still unemployed so that they can be connected to available opportunities. We also need to support elderly women who depend on charcoal selling so that they can improve their livelihoods,” Hon. Sarah Ithungu said.»

The MP also encouraged persons with disabilities (PWDs) to benefit from government programs, including Parish Development Model (PDM) funds, which she said can be accessed without repayment under specific government guidelines.

She urged residents without National Identity Cards to visit National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) offices to register and become eligible for government services.

«“People with disabilities can benefit from PDM funds, but they must have National Identity Cards. I encourage those without IDs to go to NIRA offices so they can access government programs,” Ithungu said.»

Hon. Ithungu called on residents to support NRM candidates in the Local Council I elections, noting that strong grassroots leadership is important for effective service delivery.

She pledged continued support to the beneficiary groups and promised to put in place mechanisms to monitor their progress and ensure the funds are used effectively.

«“I will continue supporting these groups and I will put in place people to follow up on their progress to ensure the support given benefits all members and contributes to their development,” she added.»

Meanwhile, Enos Nyabutundu, the personal assistant to former ICT and National Guidance Minister Hon. Godfrey Kabyanga, urged residents to vote for NRM candidates, saying government programmes are better accessed when leaders work together.

«“When leaders work together with the government, communities are able to benefit from different government programmes. I encourage residents to support leaders who can help them access these opportunities,” Nyabutundu said.»

Presenting concerns from education stakeholders, Mr. Wanyika Deo highlighted challenges affecting Nyamambuka I Cell, including limited financial support for community groups, poor temporary bridges, unemployment among educated youth, and lack of community facilities such as tents and chairs that could generate income.

Residents appreciated Hon. Ithungu for engaging with them and listening to their concerns, saying she was among the leaders who had returned to interact with the community.

During the meeting, Hon. Ithungu also donated more than 25 mama kits to expectant mothers as part of efforts to support maternal health in the area.
