Students Urged to Prioritise Education During Career Guidance Session in Ihandiro - Kasese

Students in Kasese District have been encouraged to make the best use of their time in school and remain committed to education as a foundation for a brighter future.

The message was delivered during a career guidance session held this week at Ihandiro Vocational Secondary School, bringing together Primary Seven candidates from various primary schools in Ihandiro Sub-county alongside students of the host secondary school.

Established in 2001 through the efforts of parents in the area, Ihandiro Vocational Secondary School is the only government-aided secondary school in the sub-county. The school has recently registered significant infrastructure improvements, including the acquisition of additional land, construction of computer laboratories, and the commencement of a boys' dormitory.

Despite the progress, the school continues to face challenges such as an insufficient number of computers, lack of staff accommodation for teachers, and inadequate library facilities.

Speaking at the event, Ihandiro Sub-county LCIII Chairperson James Nyawathekwa, who represented former Minister and Second Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Chrispus Kiyonga, commended Dr. Kiyonga for supporting the school through the construction of an administration block and a girls' hostel.

Nyawathekwa urged parents to invest in their children's education and strengthen household incomes to ensure learners remain in school and complete their studies.

The Chairperson of the Board of Governors, Julius Syakengwa Baluku, said the career guidance initiative was organised to help Primary Seven candidates appreciate the importance of progressing to secondary education and making informed career choices.

He noted that the programme also seeks to improve Primary Leaving Examination performance in Ihandiro Sub-county and the wider Bukonzo West constituency.

Syakengwa further appealed to parents to play a more active role in guiding and supporting their children's education, noting that inadequate parental involvement has contributed to school dropouts.

The event attracted Primary Seven candidates from several schools, including Kabusongora Primary School and Blessed Model Primary School, among others.
