Journalists on Notice: Pay Up or Face the Law, Warns Kasese Emyooga Association
In a stern move to recover outstanding loans, the Kasese Journalists Emyooga Association has threatened to involve law enforcement in arresting journalists who default on payments. This drastic measure aims to ensure the program's continuity and benefit all members.
Kasese Assistant Resident District Commissioner, Justine Muhindo Mutabazi, recently emphasized the importance of saving, wise fund utilization, and loan repayment during the Kasese Municipality Emyooga leaders' evaluation meeting.
Ms. Muhindo identified key challenges facing the program, including:
- Lack of proper group formation
- Ghost groups
- Poor savings culture
- Lack of group appraisals
- Leadership gap
Kasese Municipality Principal Community Development Officer, Wilson Lhughabwe, attributed the program's biggest challenge to management gaps. He advised SACCO leaders to address these issues and mobilize willing members to join savings groups by mid-October.
Enock Friday Bwamable, Chairperson of the Kasese Journalists Emyooga Association, announced direct fund disbursement to beneficiaries to avoid delays.
Awate Zulufa, Treasurer and member of Hotel Owners Omwooga SACCO, praised the government program, citing successful initiatives like maize milling, soap making, and youth skills training.
Launched in 2019, Emyooga targets various groups, including journalists, to improve income and alleviate poverty.
