Journalists Replenish Environment in Kasese

The Umbrella for Journalists in Kasese (UJK) is making a positive impact on environmental conservation through tree planting. 

Their current project, "Protecting River Nyamughasana," involves planting bamboo trees along the river banks in Kyarumba Town Council and Kyarumba Sub-County. Over 1,000 bamboo seedlings have been planted, covering 2 kilometers of the river valley.

Project Coordinator Ms. Rusia Musoki expressed gratitude to the community for embracing the project, aimed at preventing disasters. 

"Our goal is to have a disaster-free district. We've observed that floods cause significant damage on bare lands, which is why we're planting trees." Rusia say 

UJK Leaders Addressing Community Members 

Leaders from Bukonzo County East in Kasese district have praised UJK's efforts in restoring the River Nyamughasana valley. Joelesi Serebethe, Assistant CDO of Kyarumba Sub-County, emphasized the need for government support with more bamboo tree seedlings.

Rosemary Biira, Kyarumba Sub-County Female Councilor, and Absolom Bwambale Mumbahya, Chairperson Local Council I for Mughanza Village, thanked journalists for their participation in controlling climatic changes.

 "Trees won't only control floods but also minimize atmospheric hot temperatures. We urge the government to support journalists in their good cause." Leaders appreciate 

UJK recently participated in planting Mambo Trees along River Nyamughasana, which often bursts its banks, leaving crops and homes destroyed, exposing locals to hunger and misery.
