Kasese Town on Brink of Environmental Disaster: Liberty College Students Intervene with Tree Planting And Garbage Collection
Kasese Town is facing an unprecedented environmental crisis, with rampant pollution and deforestation threatening the very existence of its ecosystem. But in a heartening display of community spirit, students from Liberty College of Management and Journalism took matters into their own hands, cleaning and planting trees in a bid to save their town.
Today (12th September 2024), the students, led by their principal, Mr. Sezi Bwambale, descended upon Nyakasanga Road in Nyamwamba Division, Kasese Municipality, to plant about 10 tree seedlings. Corporal William Bisogho, a serving UPDF officer, generously donated a portion of his land for the initiative and praised the students' efforts.
"I'm thrilled to see these young minds taking charge of their environment," said Corporal Bisogho. "Their actions will undoubtedly make a positive impact on our community." Bisogho explained
Mr. Bwambale explained that the event aimed to raise awareness about the college's upcoming graduation and 20-year anniversary celebration on the 20th, which will feature a program soliciting donations for a computer laboratory to enhance ICT knowledge among learners.
Kiiza Boaz, a student at Liberty College, urged plot owners to care for the newly planted trees, saying, "These trees will help regulate environmental temperatures and ensure a healthier future for our community."
Abigaba Swale, an accounting and finance student, added, "We invite parents to bring their children to Liberty College, where we foster a love for the community and a commitment to giving back."
The students' initiative is a beacon of hope for Kasese Town's environmental future."
