"Teacher Exodus: Kasese District Faces Crisis as Educators Flee in Droves"

A devastating teacher shortage is looming in Kasese District as a surge in early retirement requests threatens to decimate the education sector. The alarming revelation was made by Deputy District Chief Administrative Officer, Mr. Eriab Begumya Ntarwete, during a recent district council sitting.

"The rate at which teachers are requesting early retirement is worrying, and we're facing a scarcity of teachers in our schools," Mr. Ntarwete warned. "Most teachers have already submitted their applications, and many will be out of service by the end of this financial year."

Councilors attributed the mass exodus to dire working conditions, citing multiple loans, sicknesses, and poor salaries as major factors. "Teachers are becoming boda-boda riders because they can't survive on their current pay," one councilor lamented.

Others called on the area MP to take the matter to parliament and push for policy changes. "We need to reverse some of the stringent qualifications for teachers and ensure each school in hard-to-reach areas has a staff quota and a senior female teacher," another councilor urged.

The crisis raises concerns about the future of education in Kasese District, leaving many to wonder how the gap will be bridged.

Ends.
