DEADLY CROCODILE ATTACKS IN KASESE: A CALL FOR CAUTION
Kasese, Uganda - Two devastating incidents have occurred in Kasese, resulting in the tragic loss of life and injury due to crocodile attacks.
On October 30, 2024, 28-year-old Kule Felex Gaddafi, a resident of Tophil Cell, Tophil Ward Katwe Kabatoro Town Council, was killed by a crocodile while illegal fishing at Lake Edward. The Marine Police conducted a search and retrieval operation, and the body was handed over to the relatives for a decent burial.
In another incident on October 15, a 15-year-old boy, a pupil at Katwe Boarding Primary School, was attacked by a suspected crocodile in Katwe-Kabatooro Town Council. The minor, who was admitted to Kagando Hospital, had gone to fetch water from Lake Edward when the incident occurred.
Rwenzori East Police Spokesperson SP Nelson Tumushime confirmed both incidents and urged individuals to exercise extreme caution and adhere to safety guidelines when engaging in activities near bodies of water.
These tragic events serve as a stark reminder of the dangers that exist in natural environments and the importance of respecting wildlife habitats. Investigations are ongoing, and the Katwe Kabatoro Territorial Police are working to prevent such tragedies in the future.
