One Life Lost Over a Phone: Senseless Violence in Kasese
"One phone, one life lost. Was it worth it?" Ahmadi Gamukama, father of the deceased, mournfully questions as he grapples with the senseless tragedy that befalls his son, Stephen Mugisa.
On October 21st, 2024, a brutal attack over a phone dispute in Kitoro cell, Kasese Municipality, claims the young life of Mugisa, leaving his family and community in shock.
Three suspects, Brain Musinguzi, Mbambu Brendah, and Emmanuel Alovis, allegedly attack Mugisa and his friend at Mbazi bar, claiming they have stolen their mobile phone. The violence escalates, resulted into Mugisa's tragic death.
The Rwenzori East Regional Police spokesperson, SP. Nelson Tumusiime, confirms the arrests and states: "The trio are alleged to have murdered Mugisa Stephen, 18 years old, and left Kyamirika Clavin, 16 years old, nursing serious injuries. By press time he was admitted to Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Kasese Municipality."
Mr. Isiah Thembo, the area local council one chairperson for Kitoro, says the deceased has no criminal record. The community is in shock, with many questioning the value of human life. " How could someone's life be taken over a mere mobile phone?" Gamukama adds.
The incident raises concerns about senseless violence and the need for empathy and compassion in society..
