Teachers Urged to Diversify Income Amid Salary Delays and Low Pay

The recent World Teachers' Day celebrations in Kasese marked by calls for educators to explore alternative income streams amidst persistent salary delays and low pay. Kasese Municipality MP Hon. Kambale Ferigo acknowledges teachers' dedication but stresses the need for supplementary income.

"Teachers should engage in other income-generating activities like tourism, farming, and business to address salary delays and low pay," Hon. Ferigo says.

Rwenzori Region Chairperson for the Association of Secondary Schools Headteachers of Uganda, Mr. Nzukwa Joseph, echoes this sentiment.

"Government must find strategies to motivate teachers, who play a vital role in development," Nzukwa emphasizes.

Kasese District Vice LC V, Monday Bwambale Girivazio, pledges to investigate salary delays.

"We are finding out why teachers' salaries are delayed and ensuring timely payments," Girivazio assures.

He also cautions teachers against early retirement.
