WARNING: Deadly Petrol Tanker Accidents on the Rise - Keep a Safe Distance!

"Avoid coming near petrol transporting vehicles in case they get involved in accidents," urges SP Luka Mbusa, Rwenzori East Community Liaisons Officer. "Petroleum products are prone to catching fire readily, and the behavior of residents wanting to siphon petroleum products is not good since it leads to deaths."

Tragedy struck again last Tuesday in Kigogwa Wakiso district, where a petrol tanker burst into flames, killing at least 16 people and injuring many others. The incident highlights the importance of exercising caution and keeping a safe distance from petrol tankers involved in accidents.

"We can't stress enough how dangerous it is to approach petrol tankers involved in accidents," says SP Mbusa. "Keep a distance of at least 40 meters to ensure your safety in case of a fire or explosion."

This warning comes after a series of similar incidents, including a fuel tanker explosion in northern Nigeria that killed 170 people on October 15. In Uganda, similar incidents have occurred in Kyambura in 2019, resulting in 19 deaths, and in Kampala in 2013, where 33 people lost their lives.
