Vandalism and Theft Plague Kasese Community, Leaving Residents in Fear
In a terrifying turn of events, the Kasese community in Western Uganda has been plagued by vandalism and theft, leaving residents in a state of fear and uncertainty.
Six suspects have been arrested in connection with the theft and vandalism of electricity wires and livestock in Kasese District. Suspects involved in the alleged vandalism of electricity wires as Mumbere Moris (26), Bwambale Benard (22), and Kule Nyesio, all residents of Nyamwamba Division.
In a separate incident, police have arrested Julius Ndyabirimire, Mr. Wisley Mumbere (19), and his mother, Ms. Naume Mbambu, on allegations of stealing a cow in the same area
"The constant vandalism is a major setback for us and impacts government projects as well. We've had significant losses that also discourage new contractors from taking on our projects," said Kambere Edson, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Kilembe Mines Ltd., a major local employer and economic hub in Kasese District.
Residents are calling on security agencies to enhance their patrols and intelligence-gathering efforts to prevent similar incidents in the future. "In just a year, I've lost three cows to thieves. It's devastating for a small farmer like myself. I ask the authorities to handle this issue firmly and restore peace in our community," said Harriet Mbambazi, a resident and livestock owner in Nyamwamba Division.
"We are actively investigating these cases, and we have sufficient evidence against the suspects. Once investigations are completed, they will be taken to court to face justice," said SP. Nelson Tumushime, Rwenzori region police spokesperson.
