Government, Religious Leaders and Parents, to Prioritize Cultural Heritage- Kasese

KASESE, UGANDA - Her Royal Highness Queen Agnes Ithungu Asimawe of Obusinga Bwa-Rwenzururu urged parents to teach their children about their cultural heritage and values.

Speaking through a written message read by Hon. Loice Biira Bwambale at the Olhuyani Lwabayira Bakonzo cultural competitions, Queen Agnes stressed that it's the responsibility of parents to pass down cultural values, especially language, to their children.

"The public has always criticized culture as satanic, which isn't the case. I appreciate Olhuyani Olhwa Bayiria for promoting culture in our kingdom," said Hon. Aganatia Katya, Minister for Culture in OBR.

Hon. Katya also warned against promoting political ideologies in cultural institutions, stating that it would lose its meaning if directly involved in politics.

"We urge you to use the kingdom symbols correctly. We request organizations who may wish to use those symbols to seek guidance from the kingdom. As OBR, we are aiming at promoting education," added Hon. Kule Baritazala Benson, Deputy Prime Minister for Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu. He further emphasized that promoting education is key to the development of the kingdom.

Hon. Florence Kabugho, Kasese District Woman Member of Parliament, emphasized the importance of proper nutrition for children's health.

Bwambale Clement, Secretary-General and Programs Manager of Olhuyani Lwabayira, reported that the group was initiated to teach the community about culture and the environment. "The aim of our association is to improve culture, promote language development, and unite for development," he said.

The event, held at Verina Gardens in Kasese town, aimed to promote culture, language development, and unity for development. Ithungu Harriet emerged as the winner of the Engabu Clan cultural gala competition, scoring 48 points, followed by Sibwira Nzoli with 32 points, and Masereka Moris with 15 points.

Ithungu Harriet was awarded a goat by Loice Biira Bwambale, representing Her Royal Highness.

"I stand before you today to emphasize the significance of preserving our cultural heritage. Our customs, language, music, dances, and stories are the vessels through which we pass down values, knowledge, and wisdom to future generations," Queen Agnes noted.
