Plant for the Planet Launches Climate Justice Ambassadors in Kanyangeya - Kasese
Kasese, Uganda - Plant for the Planet, a non-governmental organization, has launched climate justice ambassadors in Kanyangeya cell, Kasese municipality, targeting school-going children aged 9-14 years. The initiative aims to empower young people to advocate for tree growth and combat climate change effects.
Speaking at the launch, Isaac Sinamakosa, Coordinator for Plant for the Planet in Kasese, emphasized the crucial role young people play in protecting the environment. "We are mobilizing and recruiting climate change ambassadors targeting children between the age of 9 to 14 years whose future is at stake because of what is currently happening in the environment," he said.
The trainees, including pupils from Crimson Primary School, Kanyangeya Primary School, and Kasese Ideal Primary School, pledged to promote tree planting and environmental conservation. They called for law enforcement against deforestation perpetrators and urged locals to diversify fuel sources.
The initiative aims to promote ecosystem balance, income generation through tourism, and herbal medicine. Kasese District has been affected by floods due to climate change, and this effort seeks to mitigate such challenges.
The trainees committed to planting more trees and promoting environmental conservation in their communities.
